Cootamundra Ex-servicemen's & Citizens' Memorial club are happy to acknowledge funding received from the Office of Environment & Heritage to save Water and Energy through the NSW Government Climate Change fund.

The Club obtained the funding in March 2011 and the aim of the project was to find efficiencies in water usage and electrical energy consumption.

ELECTRICITY:To achieve this with the Electrical energy usage all halogen lamps throughout the building were changed to energy efficient fluorescent lamps and LED lamps where permissable. Over 300 lamps were changed in the process. At the same time all Emergency Exit lights were upgraded to the energy efficient LED style.

WATER: The Club had been fortunate to receive a grant 5 years before to harvest rain water from the roof for use in watering the bowling green. At that time 2 x 100,000 litre tanks were set into the ground and were connected to the bowling green's irrigation system. It was realised that during the winter season that the green was in a dormant stage and did not require watering. This presented the Club with the opportunity to reuse this stored water for other purposes. The Club identified that the water could be easily used for the toilet cisterns on the Members Lounge level. With minor alterations to the plumbing in this area and the installation of an isolation valve to prevent mixing with the local town water plus a pump system to feed the cistern system the reuse was achieved.
This has led to a more efficient way of using the rainwater and not just letting it run off to the local waterways. This in turn assists in reducing the load on the local water supply.

This has led to a reduction in energy and water consumption over the last three months and has encouraged the Board to investigate all other options for energy efficiencies for the Club.

The Board would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Office of Environment & Heritage and urges everybody to seek efficiencies at work and home for the betterment of all.

1.RENOVATIONS: The Club has just approved renovations to the foyer/entry. The entry will be at street level with a lift to all floors including the members lounge, the Wattle Lounge and the Auditorium. Network Constructions will be the company carrying out the renovations. The Board is keen to see the new modern spacious foyer and reception.
Network Constructions are calling for local trades to submit their resumes for work on the renovation. Plans are now currently with the council and we are hoping that construction should begin around September. So once construction is completed, why not come in and check out our newly refurbished reception area.

2. COURTESY BUS:The Club has just had the courtesy bus modified to include an extra step to assist the less mobile of us to gain entry. Please check it out, getting to the Club has just that much easier. Please we would appreciate a gold coin donation when you use the bus to assist with the running costs.
